January 17, 2005 (Press Release) --
Now that the election is over, many progressives find themselves wondering whether their political activism can really make any difference after all. However, some are beginning to realize that the future of 21st century politics lies beyond the limitations of Washington D.C. in the movement for “integral politics.” An intriguing example of this new integral politics is found on the website: www.integralworldgovernment.org , which features an on-line petition for global democracy. Modeled after Jefferson’s 1776 Declaration of Independence, this on-line petition is entitled: A Declaration of the Value of Global Governance. Created by Colorado lawyer and activist Steve McIntosh, the petition website also includes essays describing the philosophy behind the Declaration, and how global governance can be realistically achieved in our lifetime. The site’s essays also carefully counter arguments against the goal of global democracy.
The Declaration of the Value of Global Governance petition is not just another peacenik fantasy, the site describes a way to “transcend and include” the politics of both left and right through the evolution of values. According to the site’s founder Steve McIntosh: “Every problem in the world can be solved through cultural evolution, and now with integral philosophy we have a better understanding of exactly how we can achieve cultural evolution.” McIntosh continued, “democracy originally emerged in America and
Europe as a result of the shift in values and worldview caused by a new philosophical movement. Now in our time we can see how an emerging philosophical movement is similarly serving to bring about a new vision of human government in the form of world federation.”
The launch of the integralworldgovernment.org website was immediately recognized by the culturally-sophisticated magazine 'What Is Enlightenment?', which features an insightful review of the site in their December issue (view this press clipping at: www.integralworldgovernment.org/images/GlobalGov.jpg ). According to 'What Is Enlightenment?' reviewer Carter Phipps, the website presents a “conversation about our global future that is way past due.”
Integralworldgovernment.org is administered by The Project for Integral World Federation, a Colorado non-profit organization working to educate people on the significant discoveries and results-oriented programs of integral philosophy. In addition to its essays and articles, the site includes a bibliography of integral philosophy books and links to the growing international activity on the internet that this new philosophy is generating.
