The creator of “NO GREATER DECEPTION” drives through Texas, relieved those adverse days of unemployment, betrayal and near-bankruptcy are over. Soon, readers will get to sample Sydney Newman Dotson’s modern-day western at the Sundance Film Festival.

Sydney’s father, Wes Newman, a retired rancher and Texas lawman, warned her that his wife, Betty, a former prostitute, would do anything to gain his estate and disinherit his six children when he dies. But she had no idea how far Betty would really go, and how long she planned this heist until her father did pass away. What really went on behind Betty’s closed doors was a huge surprise to Dotson and her brothers and sisters. Wes, a retired rancher and lawman, wasn’t Betty’s only victim. She had many more.
Betty had spun an enormous web of destruction. Her long history of forgery, theft and murder caught up with her when Wes’ two daughters, Sydney and Heather, dug deep to get to the bottom of their family secrets.

Sydney knows a lot about women who place a premium on appearances. Thirty-five years ago, her own mother, Jean, an inquisitive and exceptionally bright woman who gave up her own career to raise six children, had been harboring her own secrets about her husband’s affair with Betty.
"She thought it was classless to talk about your personal problems," Dotson says. All that was changed by an unexpected conversation between some ladies at a local beauty shop that Dotson’s mother overheard, and now Dotson is on her way to launching one of the most anticipated films and TV Series in Hollywood.
She and her sister are beautiful, intelligent and intriguing thirty and forty-something women who have made it to the top of their professions. There’s Sydney, a foxy single-mother of two teenagers who left her abusive husband in Texas for an executive career at IBM in New York; and Heather, a sexy divorcee with no children, who left her abusive husband for an executive position at NASA in Houston. They were very close as children, and their escapades continue as adults as they search for their father's Will and the attorney that prepared it.

ABC is in need of another hit drama like “DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES” - Nicolette Sheridan, Eva Longoria, Marcie Cross, Felicity Huffman and Golden Globe winning dramatic comedy actress Terri Hatcher of “Lois Lane,” Superman’s girlfriend - to help the beleaguered fourth-ranked network rise to the top of the heap. Dotson, who left her high-paying job to pursue justice on her father’s behalf, certainly hopes so, but she tries not to think that far ahead. She still remembers where she was just three years ago.
"I couldn’t concentrate on anything but finding my father’s real Will and the attorneys that prepared it. I was getting concerned that I had spent my life savings on legal fees and saw no end to this case for a very long time. “So many people familiar with our case urged me to write a book. I had a long, honest talk with myself and I had to admit that I had a killer story that needed to be told. Two prominent female authors, who I asked to write this book, read my 1-minute pitch and told me I was a gifted writer and needed to write my own story. That was the beginning of a whole new career for me.”

So Sydney focused on the first image that occurred to her every morning, Betty, in a fit of rage at the hospital, yelling at her father about what he had put in his Will. Although Wes, her husband, was dieing, Betty, dressed in a black designer dress and high heels to match her jet-black hair, was more interested in what she thought he should have left her. This was the defining moment and event that convinced Sydney and Heather the Will, the one Betty produced, was a forgery.
Two months later, the first draft of “NO GREATER DECEPTION” had been completed. "I thought to myself, 'I've done it! Everyone will read it and Hollywood will love it, " Dotson says. “But numerous rejections from literary agents and major publishers stood in the way. It seems you must be married to, related to, or sleeping with them in order to be successful. So I published this first book myself, and took my story directly to potential movie producers. I was so desperate I was willing to put it in their hairdresser’s hands."
TODAY’S WOMAN
What Sydney and her sister experienced sets itself apart in so many ways. It's a real voice about what's going on in America and the way a modern woman confronts legal obstacles and challenges. As the two sisters move into action, the clicking sound of fingers on computer keyboards, camera shots of suspicious documents and telephone rings paints the race to the courthouse as a thrilling adventure. There’s a true sense or urgency that everybody can relate to because the clock is ticking.

If Dotson’s book is going to make it to the big screen, she must grab every opportunity to get her book into the right person’s hands. She fires off daily emails like bullets, offering to mail them her film treatment and best-selling book. Although she felt certain her story would appeal to them when she wrote it, she is genuinely surprised when they say, “shoot them to me. I’ll be happy to take a look.”
Seeing that there are not enough great roles for women in Hollywood, here's a story that has equally strong, unique and powerful female characters. It’s unique in that it is a story about women written from a woman’s perspective. Dotson has a fresh and funny way of communicating feelings and relationship disorders. Her knack for writing this story as a suspenseful mystery thriller is admirable.
Dotson and her sister plan to shop their story at the Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals this year. The two blondes will certainly be noticed. Their smiles and giggles are contagious. Who else will be there? Robert Redford, Pierce Brosnan, Kevin Cosner and Sissy Spacek. Donald Trump and Melania followed up their wedding with a honeymoon at the Donald's new resort in Florida. Many of them will be off to the Super Bowl in Jacksonville Florida next week. Johnny Carson, former host of The Tonight Show, will be missed by all.
