Rudraa Home Video is proud to announce the launch of its ‘Modern Classics’ series with ‘Akriet’, produced by Chitra Palekar and directed by Amol Palekar. With story, screenplay and dialogues by the legendary Vijay Tendulkar, the film won the Grand Jury Award at the Three Continents’ Festival in Nantes, France. The film is presented on VCD in its original form with English sub-titles.
The ‘Modern Classics’ series marks yet another endeavor of Rudraa Home Video to make the best of Indian cinema more accessible to the connoisseur of good cinema. Coming close on the successful launch of its ‘Thinking Man’ series, the ‘Modern Classics’ series will enable the film lover to have his own Film Festival whenever he wants, in the comfort of his own home!
Soon to follow will be other regional films including ‘Tiladaanam’ (The Rite… A Passion) in Telugu – winner of the Best Asian Film Award at the Pusan International Film Festival and the Golden Lotus for Best First film at the National Awards; ‘Vaastupurush’ (Guardian Spirit of the House) in Marathi – Silver Lotus winner at the National Awards and winner of the Best Film at the Screen Awards; and many, many more…!

Synopsis:
An internationally acclaimed film, “Akriet” (Misbegotten) is a savage account of superstition and blind faith in rural India. The film is based on the real life incident of the Manwad mass murders where five young girls were sacrificed to appease an evil spirit lodged in a tree. A corrupt man wants to get-rich-quick and his equally unscrupulous mistress wants a child. She embarks on the ritual of sacrificing five maidens for the fulfillment of their goals. Crisp pace and suspense mark this highly praised thriller.
