BullandBearWise Index remains unchanged this week
Despite a flurry of economic news this week, the BullandBearWise Index remains unchanged this week.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 4, 2005 --
The BullandBearWise Index ranks the importance of 32 economic and financial indicators and assigns them a status of “Bullish” or “Bearish.” For the latest period, the drop in Initial Jobless Claims added an unweighted value of 2 to the Index. The rise in Personal Income added another 2 to the Index.
The drop in Manufacturing ISM and Non-Manufacturing ISM each subtracted an unweighted value of 2 from the Index. New Homes Sales, Agricultural Prices, Factory Orders, Non-Farm Productivity and the Unemployment rate continued on trend and did not affect the Index.
For the week, the cumulative change from these indicators was zero, resulting in the Index remaining unchanged at 49.25.
“As widely expected, The Federal Reserve raised the Fed Funds rate 0.25 percent to 2.5 percent. Further rate hikes are expected and watching the Fed funds futures at http://bullandbearwise.com/futuresActionFedFunds.asp can offer clues as to how much higher and when,” said Peter Duray-Bito, owner of BullandBearWise.com.
Duray-Bito also commented on the drop in Non-Farm Productivity. He said, “The drop in productivity reflects a lull in information and communications technology speed gains. In effect, broadband and CDMA (cell) are about as fast as they need to be.”
The indicators used in the BullandBearWise Index are weighted based on the table available at http://www.bullandbearwise.com/calculation.asp. All bullish indicators are then summed and divided into the sum of all the indicators. When an indicator changes from bearish to bullish, the Index increases 1.5 times the Weighting. For example, if Consumer Credit (Weighting = 1) turns from bearish to bullish, the BullandBearWise Index would increase by 1.5.
