The Delphian School Students Adopt the Mawira School in Kenya

February 4, 2005 (Press Release) -- Frank Choto, a native of Kenya living in Oregon and a friend of The Delphian School, explained to Delphi students the situation in his home country and his dream of helping African schools, starting with his own primary school in Kenya. The students immediately decided they wanted to help, and letters and pictures were soon being exchanged with the Mawira School in Kenya. After contacting the school’s principal, The Delphian School students found out school uniforms for AIDS orphans was at the top of the Mawira wish list.

The students held a silent auction, selling carved wood sculptures of wild animals found in Africa. The auction raised over five hundred dollars so the uniforms could be purchased. One student commented, “We feel privileged for the education we are receiving at Delphi, and we are happy to contribute to those less fortunate.”

The Delphian School students are currently raising money for other items on the Mawira School’s wish list.

The Delphian School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school offering college preparatory, English-as-a-Second-Language and summer programs for elementary through high school students. The Delphian School is licensed to use Applied Scholastics educational services.
