February 17, 2005 (Press Release) --
Questioning the tone and tactics of self-proclaimed cultural warriors, the leadership of the group Brewing Culture called for an end to "the rhetoric of repudiation and revenge."
"The culture wars have done nothing but create victims and enemies," said Erik Lokkesmoe, founder of Brewing Culture. "We believe there is a better way, one that invites deep and honest dialogue about life's most urgent questions."
Brewing Culture hosts monthly gatherings at a bar outside Washington, D.C. -- a city not known for civility -- to explore and express transcendent themes in art and artists. It is one of the few places where liberals and conservatives, young and old, black and white, artist and patron come together for breath-taking honesty about being human.
"We need more people creating, and fewer people complaining," said Lokkesmoe. "We need conservatives to work in AIDS clinics, travel to the developing world, visit prisons, and care for the poor. And we need liberals to confront the irresponsibility of the entertainment culture, welcome faith in public life, and work against the erosion of families and community-standards."
Brewing Culture is a community of creative professionals desiring to explore and express the good, the true, and the beautiful in and through art and media.
