Play Group for West Philadelphia Neighbor and Relative Providers
Preparing Philadelphia Children for Success in School
Philadelphia, PA., February 28th, 2005 --The West Philadelphia Child Care Network will be having a Play Group for West Philadelphia neighbor and relative caregivers. The Play Group is free. It will begin in March and will meet two mornings a week, Monday and Tuesday. The Play Group will be held at the Parent Infant Center (PIC) located at 4205 Spruce Street. Transportation can be arranged for enrolled participants.
Neighbors and relatives who care for young children will have the opportunity to bring the children to a classroom with a trained pre-kindergarten teacher. There, they learn new and exciting ways to prepare the children for success in school. Caregivers have the opportunity to share tips and resources with each other in a child-safe, fun and friendly environment. “The Play Group is a chance for caregivers of young children to share experiences as well as introduce the children to early school readiness skills” says Yvette Gimenez, who is the support person for the caregivers in the program. “The children while have a chance to play while their caregivers learn more about providing school readiness activities in their own homes.”
Ideal participants for the Play Group are people who care for children age five or younger in their home. Anyone interested in participating in this free Play Group should call Yvette Gimenez at 267-531-5245 ext. 107.
Play Groups support school readiness for children whose neighbors and relatives care for them during the day. Children will learn through play. They will participate in activities that stimulate their growth and development.
The mission of the West Philadelphia Child Care Network is to strengthen child care and early education services in West and Southwest Philadelphia through professional training, resource development and advocacy activities.
