March 4, 2005 (Press Release) --
New York, NY, March 4, 2005 — Billionaires for Bush (B4B), advocates for the corporate elite, will gather in cities countrywide to unveil their ongoing campaign to “Make Social Security Neither!” Scheduled events include Social Security Auctions, counter-protests of anti-privatization Social Security rallies, and an appearance at the Greektown Casino in downtown Detroit. Participating cities range include New York, Philadelphia, Eugene, OR, and Boston. Detailed, updated information at: http://billionairesforbush.com/socsec.
Billionaires across the country share concern that President Bush’s plan to Brokerize Social Security is facing challenges in Congress and in popular support. In a show of encouragement and with an eye on the bottom line, Billionaires nationwide will be heard to say, “Take from Main Street! Give to Wall Street!”
"The real crisis is that there’s money to be made and it’s trapped in Social Security,” said Ivana Moore-Enmoore, Boston B4B Chapter Leader. “Social Security is our next hostile takeover.” The Boston chapter will celebrate “Social Insecurity Day” with speeches and leafleting at Faneuil Hall at noon on March 5th.
Philadelphia Billionaires will counter-protest an anti-privatization Social Security parade on March 11th. “We want to thank the President for his efforts to take taxpayer’s money and put it in broker’s pockets,” said Philadelphia Chapter Leader Iona Thinktank. “We can’t let the objections of retirees and the middle class go unchecked.”
Other events will take place in Detroit on March 5th, Eugene, OR on March 5th, and Chicago on March 12th
Finally, Billionaires For Bush Headquarters will host a press conference followed by a theatricalauction of Social Security, and celebratory Billionaire Happy Hour for its well-heeled supporters at the Stewart Mott House in Washington, D.C., on March 11th, beginning at 3 p.m.
“We couldn’t be more enthusiastic,” said Director of Disinformation Tex Shelter. “When Roosevelt ushered in Social Security with his so-called ‘New Deal’ we fought it like wildcats. But now Bush’s ‘Raw Deal’ shows us that Social Security can be a very remunerative cash cow for the wealthiest.”
