Los Angeles, USA, April 1, 2005. Brand new Microcast (Podcast) program, Screen Gems, hosted by Renny Manne, is back on-line and working smoothly.
“The new episode, dedicated to Firefly, just hit a vein of fans simultaneously that brought down the house”, said Renny Manne, referring to the server hosting the Screen Gems program.
“Firefly is one of those programs that developed a cult of fans, even though it was cancelled by Fox TV in the midst of it’s premiere season in 2002”, according to Manne. But through the effort of those fans the show was given a new lease of life with a new Movie, titled Serenity, to be released in September by NBC Universal.
Screen Gems is produced by Rhythmic Pulsar Media, the first audio program to be Microcast on the Internet.
Podcasting is a term that has completely outlived its usefulness, semantically and conceptually giving way to Microcasting.
“To totally misquote Marshall MacLuhan, the medium is the message …not the device”, said Manne, producer and host of Screen Gems.
If media distribution has evolved from (through-the-air) ‘broadcasting’; to the more specialized ‘narrowcast’ channel offerings of Pay TV (and radio); there is no doubt that the syndicated distribution of rich media on the internet can only be referred to as ‘Microcasting’.
“Podcasting has had its day …and must make way for Microcasting. I’m pleased to say that all of us at Rhythmic Pulsar Media celebrate the change”, continued Manne.
Podcasting was a term and concept initially established to describe the ability to pass on-line ‘syndicated’ audio media directly into Apple’s iTunes software and then automatically into Apple’s iPod music player.

Microcasting by definition includes; all ‘rich’ media (audio, video and beyond) syndicated across all devices and platforms; the ability to provide a more finely tuned specialization of content on a program-by-program basis rather than a channel-by-channel basis; and most importantly, the concept that a program is delivered on a ‘one-to-one’ basis.
