According to the new boss Charlie Belknap Hollywood stunt show.
The aspects of the auto thrill show stem directly from the "speed demons" introduced to America during speed contests taking place at the start of the 20th Century.
Auto racing grew in popularity when Barney Oldfield won the first oval course event, held in Grosse Point, MI during 1903. Oldfield's ride was a four cylinder, 80hp racing automobile built by soon-to-be-famous machine shop mechanic, Henry Ford.
In 1910, Charles G. Fischer led a team of early auto industry executives in the construction of a testing facility outside of Indianapolis, IN. One year later, a 500 mile racing event was held at the track, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was born.
As soon as the checkered flag was dropped for the first time in Indianapolis, the green flag was waiving for a new breed of entertainment to sweep the nation.
With more and more race tracks, and racing organizations appearing across the country, a competitive industry was developing among the numerous promoters of auto speed events.
In efforts to inflate their ticket sales over those of competitors, early promoters added special attractions to their regular racing programs.
The early brainstorms gave birth to the first motorcycle and midget car racing, as well as contests advertised as "Auto Polo" and "Auto Push Ball".
However, no other attraction kept the turnstiles spinning faster then the death defying feats of the auto daredevils.
