April 21, 2005 (Press Release) --
East Point, GA, April, 20, 2005 – Road One Express and Phoenix Courier have combined their operations to form the fourth largest courier company in metropolitan Atlanta. The new company now includes over 120 vehicles, 130 drivers and a support staff of over 30 personnel. President of the group, Mr. Leonard Wright has over ten years of experience in the courier business, and has decided to locate the company at the current Road One Express facility in East Point, Georgia. Regarding the reason for the merger he said, “we now have the ability to make same day and next day deliveries of anything that can fit in a person’s hand, a car, a van or a truck; from a single envelope to multiple tractor-trailer loads of freight.”
Road One Express has been in existence since 2001 and Phoenix Courier since 1990. The combined operation will now be responsible for making over five hundred deliveries every single day. The great majority of them are time sensitive.
The on-the-road staff includes licensed and insured company drivers as well as independent operators. The vehicles include bicycles, cars, vans, covered pickup trucks, cargo vans, straight trucks and tractor-trailers. Mr. Wright indicated the operation will be split between servicing clients with courier-related needs and those with freight-handling needs. “This way,” he said, “the expertise will remain right where it needs to be. A freight person has a different skill set than a courier person does, and we now have some of the best in the business for both areas right here under one roof.”
Deciding to retain the East Point location was partly due to its proximity to the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (a stone’s throw from the Virginia Avenue ramp to Interstate 85) as the company has recently been certified by the United States Customs Department as a bonded carrier for moving freight between U.S. Ports of Entry.
Future plans include upgrading to state of the art transportation and warehouse management software as well as expansion into other large cities in the southeast. For further information, visit their website at www.road1express.com .
