18 Year Old Driver Andrew Lewis, Edges Closer to Rookie of the Year in NASCAR’s Grand National West Series
Stockton California –May 2, 2005- Eighteen year old Andrew Lewis is chasing his dream as well as NASCAR’s Grand National West Series seasoned veterans. Lewis, who started 16th on the grid, driving the TEEN Arrive Alive Chevrolet finished 8th in the field of 19 at Stockton 99 Speedway this weekend moving himself up to 8th overall in season standings, and 1st in Rookie of the Year points. “Andrew’s ability to communicate with the crew on how the car is performing is beyond his years of experience. That is something we cannot train. You either have it, or you don’t” said team owner Bill McAnally.
Lewis has found a home with Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) which works in conjunction with Richard Childress Racing Development out of Sonoma California. “Andrew’s dedication and focus is exactly what we look for in a young driver” continued McAnally. Andrew is an honor student at Santiago High School, in Corona California. Upon graduating this May he will start college while at the same time perusing a professional racing career.
Bill McAnally and Richard Childress (Richard Childress Racing), car owner of the late Dale Earnhardt have teamed up working on a developmental program with young, up-and-coming talented drivers to give them more experience. The combined resource of BMR and RCR provides a great program for serious young race car drivers.
Lewis started racing at the age of 7 in Texas. He quickly moved through Go Karts to Bandolero Cars to Legends cars, where he was the 2003 Semi Pro National Champion at the age of 14. Andrew will also race in the Silverado 350K Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway November 4th.
“It is rare that the world of auto racing sees a young rising star like Andrew Lewis. He’s polished, educated, and absolutely driven. We have worked with a lot of teams and drivers over the years, and I can safely say, Andrew is an anomaly. I couldn’t be more excited about representing Andrew” stated Jim Humphrey, President of Activation Group.
