The theme of World Asthma Day 2003 is the Burden of Asthma. GINA (the Global Initiative for Asthma) has chosen the theme to raise awareness of the severe impact that asthma has on people's lives.
On World Asthma Day GINA will release a global snapshot of the burden of asthma. This snapshot will provide a first look at the findings of the Burden of Asthma Report, a comprehensive study of the prevalence and impact of asthma around the world, which will be launched in full next year.
The groundbreaking Burden of Asthma Report will highlight the fact that asthma is a global health problem that cannot be ignored. It will also call upon both people with asthma and those who provide asthma care to act to reduce the burden of asthma.
As World Asthma Day approaches, GINA will provide information on positive steps you can take to begin to reduce the burden of asthma. Meanwhile, there are many ways in which organizations can begin to prepare for World Asthma Day 2003-click here for a list of suggested educational, fundraising, and profile raising activities.
