How to transfer files to your pocket pc?
Copying the file to the Pocket PC memory card the easy way

The fastest and easiest way to transfer the converted file to your Pocket PC memory card is by using a memorycard reader.

Due to the widespread use of memory cards in other devices such as cameras, many laptop pcs and even the latest inkjet printers now include these as standard, and they are available for addition to any PC with a USB port from eBay, or all major PC and photographic centers.

The cost of a reader is now very low, so they are a worthwhile purchase.

A full length track will usually be copied in just a few minutes.

Using ActiveSync to transfer the output file to your Pocket PC

You can use ActiveSync to transfer the file to your Pocket PC, while your Pocket PC is connected to your PC.

ActiveSync has recently had a number of updates from Microsoft, so it is worthwhile checking you have the latest version by visiting the Pocket PC area of the Microsoft website. at the time of writing version 3.8 had just been released.

To use ActiveSync, connect your Pocket PC and open the Active Sync software on your desktop pc.

Click the 'Explore' icon in the toolbar and a new window should open with your Pocket PC folders showing.

Depending on the model of Pocket PC you have, the storage card may be located in a number of locations, however for most simply:
1. Select 'My Pocket PC'
2. Select 'SD Card' (or the name of the storage device you want to use)
3. Drag the video file (dvdtrail.wmv if you have the trial version) to the new window to copy it to your Pocket PC.
For standard output it usually takes about 10% of the video length to transfer the file, ie 100 minutes of video should take around 10 minutes.

If during the copy process Active Sync tries to convert the video file, select 'Tools' in the menu bar, then 'Options'. Select the 'Rules' tab in the next window, and then 'Conversion Settings'. In the next window remove the check mark from the option box to turn of the conversion option in ActiveSync as this is not required for the transfer of video file, and will slow down the transfer significantly.

Using Windows Explorer to transfer the output file to your Pocket PC

You can use Windows Explorer to copy the file to your Pocket PC quite easily.

Start Windows Explorer by clicking on the 'Start' button, select 'All programs', then 'Accessories', then 'Windows Explorer'.

Windows Explorer will start.

Locate the video file you have created (in the trial this is usually called dvdtrial.wmv) and then use the right mouse button to click it. Select 'copy' from the pop up menu.

Now, with your Pocket PC connected to your Desktop PC, Select 'My Computer' and then 'Mobile Device', then 'My Pocket PC'.

Now select the area you want to transfer the video to, usually 'SD Card', and click the right mouse button and select 'paste' from the pop up menu.

The file should then transfer to your Pocket PC.

Using Windows Media Player 9 to transfer the output file to your Pocket PC

If you want to use Windows Media Player 9 to transfer the file, allow the DVD conversion to finish then double click on the output file.

Windows Media Player 9 should then automatically start, and start to play back the DVD.

Connect your Pocket PC to your PC if you have not done so already and make sure you are running Media Player in 'Full mode' and not using a 'Skin' as all the options may not be available in the 'Skin' mode.

Now, click the 'File' menu and select 'Copy / Copy to Portable Device'.

You will see a 'Playlist' with a left and right column. When you click 'copy' in the right op corner, your file will be copied to your Pocket PC.

Usually you want to transfer the video file to the SD Card and not the main Pocket PC memory, so you would select 'SD Card'.

Click on the green 'Start Sync' button to copy the file to the selected device.
