For those of you who've been living under a rock for the past 6 months, the Sony PSP is basically all the power of your PS2, squashed down into one amazing handheld gaming experience, that also plays movies, MP3's, as well as performing a myriad of other tasks, but in reality, who needs all that, lets just play games!

The PSP just looks phooaarrr. Imagine the most wonderful looking person in the world, well hey, the PSP makes them look like they've been beaten senseless with an ugly stick! Finished in stylish black with a 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD screen that's wrapped within the sleek ergonomic design, with buttons setup just like your PS2 controller so you can literally leap straight in. As you'd expect from Sony, the PSP is loaded with little features to make your life easier. From simple things like a brightness control for the screen down to built-in stereo speakers. But for true total immersion we prefer to use headphones that plonk you right into the action, so it's a good job there's a headphone jack and you also receive a set of rather cool earphones.

The PSP is brimming with connections such as as USB 2.0, and 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless LAN, that allows you to communicate with compatible devices, but most importantly you can connect wirelessly to other PSP's to play 2 player+ games. Combine this with a rechargeable battery that provides around 5 hours of gaming time and you'll be ready to battle anyone. You could literally kickass on the train into work!

To keep things small the old discs had to go and Sony boffins gave birth to a smaller optical medium called UMD (Universal Media Disc), which is only 60mm in diameter but can store up to 1.8GB of digital data. This means complex games can be played, packed with cutting edge graphics as well as movies being released on the UMD format for PSP users who want to watch their favourite flick on the move.

So how come we have the Sony PSP now when it's not even offically launched in the UK until the 1st September (mmm and we wonder if the stock will be available then, just think back to what happened with the PS2)? Well we've imported a batch in from Japan that in our opinion will be even better than the UK release because Sony, in a bid to save some money are putting a different brand of screen in their PSP for US and Europe release! The Japanese model has a Sharp screen while the US and Europe model come with a Samsung screen. The Sharp screen has been tried and tested in the Japanese market, but as of yet, the Samsung screens reliability is an unknown quantity.

You can play games from any country! At the moment games are available from the US, but we know a reputable company in the UK, called Nu Player who have already got their hands on the latest US releases and brought them over here! This gives you the latest titles, Right Now!
