May 18, 2005 (Press Release) --
Kansas City, Missouri, May 17, 2005 local artist Sara Barati will have an art exhibit at 39th Street Gallery, 1708 W. 39th Street from May 17th through June 10th with a reception open to the public on May 20th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
When Sara works with oil paints she is reminded that she is inventing and a telling a story. Without words, she is conveying a situation or a belief and composing a variety of images that may not usually reside together in nature. There is a correlation between the objects Sara chooses to paint, which conveys her beliefs on religious, social or historical events.
Painters who have influenced Sara are the Pop artists. In a February 2004 issue of Art in America, author Richard Kalina said Pop artists had discovered "that they lived in a world of images, mostly printed ones, and that they could make their art from that model rather than the 'real' world of people, objects and nature." Sara especially admires James Rosenquist and Claes Oldenburg.
Sara graduated from Missouri Western State College in 2002 with a BA in Art, studio emphasis in painting. After graduating, she was accepted for an internship at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, NY. She worked there, mainly in scenic art, from June through August, 2003. The following summer of 2004, she was fortunate to work at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City under scenic designer Keith Brumley as a scenic art intern.
Sara has been accepted to the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Central Missouri State University. When finished, she will be certified to teach art to grades K-12. Last summer Sara painted a mural for Calvary Chapel of Liberty. During that same period her art work was shown at River City Books and Central Park Gallery, both in the historic River Market area.
