May 25, 2005 (Press Release) --
Unlike other photo sharing sites, FotoAmigo is geared toward the artists among us-amateurs and professionals alike. Amigos (members) show off their personal artwork and, as a result, meet friends, build followings, and exchange ideas. New York artist Thomas Meadows (username Meadows) says, "It's like meeting friends at an art opening and going out to coffee afterwards."Amigos share their daily life experiences such as weddings and birthdays, in both images and text. They have collaborated on original art and given art to fellow Amigos as gifts. The Amigos have also supported each other in getting their art or photos seen for the first time in gallery openings. Amigos have congratulated each other on events and achievements and have consoled one another through deaths of loved ones.
FotoAmigo, introduced last summer, has Amigos from over 80 countries. Every member creates an individual album and archive. Amigos say the site organization is one of the best features. Photos can be searched by category and/or keyword. Members can be found by username or by their email. Other features include slideshows, custom backgrounds, Hot shots of the hour and day. FotoAmigo has already received rave reviews from webloggers. Christina Conlon, a new Amigo (username Aloevera), says "What I really love about Fotoamigo is the good crowd-it's so friendly in general, but it's friendliest for artists. It's gratifying to connect with others over your own work. And sometimes, you check in just to socialize or to encourage others."
FotoAmigo continues to add features. Big changes coming this summer include In-House Mail (AmigoMail), Connection/Relationship Pages (AmigoConnections), and RSS Photo feeds (AmigoFeeds). Fotoamigo continues to add the features to make it easier to share and communicate. FotoAmigo requires no invite, and it costs nothing to join.
