May 25, 2005 (Press Release) --
May 25, 2005, Orlando, FL–Katharine Miller, a freelance designer and writer in Orlando, FL, announces the launch of WHiRR, a new line of whimsical stationery and cards featuring robot-related artwork. WHiRR enters the marketplace to provide a new gift option for technology enthusiasts.
WHiRR features the adventures of Boris, a retired robot now living a life of leisure. The mission of WHiRR is to combat the idea that robots exist only to serve. Inspired by the clunky robot styles of the 1950s and 1960s, Miller has created an alternative to the sleek laser-shooting robots of today. Boris, while engaging in a pillow fight with a fellow robot or relaxing in a kiddie pool, still struggles with everyday life and his newfound freedom.
WHiRR currently offers a variety of stationery, prints and greeting cards for sale online at the artist’s website as well as several online shops. Holiday cards are also available and a 2006 calendar is available for pre-order. All products are created and packaged by the artist to ensure quality in presentation.
In addition to paper goods, WHiRR offers several free downloads including icons, desktop images, and printable PDF versions of activity pages, a Boris paper doll and valentine cards. The artwork and products can be found on the WHiRR website http://www.blissfullybitter.com/robots/home.html.
Katharine Miller, the creator of WHiRR, began drawing Boris in 2003 as a hobby. After being approached by a friend to create robot holiday cards for him, Miller was inspired to combine her design skills with Boris in colorful and fun paper goods. In addition to writing and designing, Miller also enjoys crafting and is currently developing new handmade products to add to WHiRR.
