May 26, 2005 (Press Release) --
Author and radio personality Thomas Lyons, host of The Psychic & Spirit Radio Show and the upcoming Spirit Rock Radio, has spent his life peaking behind the veil of life’s mysteries. He’s picked the brains of professional psychics, extraordinary healers, remote viewers, religious leaders, gurus, mediums and astrologers, and has had an astonishing array of visions, prophetic dreams, and altered states of consciousness of his own. After almost half a century of mystical experience and intellectual inquiry, author and mystic Thomas Lyons feels he has something to say. His new book, Modern Day Mystic: A Psychic & Spiritual Journey Through A Not Quite Ordinary Life, is the result. To quote from his book: "A mystic is someone whose very existence is an immersion in the Divine Mysteries of Life. Every major religion has its mystics scattered amongst the general population. Hinduism has its Yogis, Christianity its Gnostics. Jews have Kabbalah. Islam its Sufis. And then, from these modern times all the way back to the most ancient of days, many true mystics have been what might best be described as 'freelancers.' 'What is God?' and 'Why are we here?' If these are the questions that daily fill your heart and mind, you may be a spiritual seeker. If, however, you feel the Divine Presence gives you regular glimpses behind the veil of life's illusions, you may, in fact, be a mystic. As best I can tell, I've been a mystic from the moment I was born…" Written with intelligence, wry humor, and a no-nonsense attitude to fools and frauds, the author shares his take on our modern world filled with religious strife, mystical visionaries and claims of the supernatural, and seeks to answer the question, "What is reality?" According to award-winning author Julie Gillentine, "In the 'not-quite-ordinary' life of Thomas Lyons bubbles of Quantum Foam emerge with clarity and truth. Thomas has shown courage and penetrating insight in navigating the largely uncharted terrain of the mystical landscape, summoning others to look beyond their assumptions and beneath the surface. His life of psychic and mystical experiences stretches our mental limits of what's possible for all of us. Modern Day Mystic is not just a riveting memoir of an unusual life but also serves as a prelude to what awaits humanity." In the 75 fascinating and compelling chapters in the book Lyons explores and explains such mystical phenomena as: out-of-body journeys, near-death experiences, visitations by ghosts and spirits, Eastern gurus and Western evangelists whose touch can heal and put their followers into altered states of consciousness, nature spirits, angels, astral travel, spirit possession, visions of the future, dreams that come true, mental telepathy, spoon-bending, remote viewing, astrological prediction, psychic readers, animal/human communication, what is "enlightenment," apparent alien encounters, and distance healing – all from his personal experience! According to his friend, writer and filmmaker Gert Basson, "Thomas is a free spirit who has lived an uncommon life by the beat of his own drum. Astrologer, mystic, healer and writer, the author's personal journey leads through a world of many dimensions, inspiring the reader with his infectious curiosity and sense of wonder. Modern Day Mystic is a unique and entertaining invitation by an extraordinary scholar and teacher to look beyond the world as presented by the five senses and dance with the mysteries of life itself." In Chapter 7 (The Man Who Wasn't There) and Chapter 9 (Hundreds Of Visions Of The Past & The Future) Thomas Lyons describes a man who used to come to him in visions when he was a small child: "I don't remember when I first became aware of his presence. It seemed he was somehow always there, just out of sight. When he would appear before me my mind would expand and I would once again remember that he was my Teacher and I was his Student. It had been so for many centuries… I wondered what people would think if they saw this dark, bearded Man in black robes, high headdress, and flowing veil in our front yard. I looked around and realized that this was vision. It was happening at another level of reality, far beyond the ability of most people to see. My Teacher tapped me in the center of my forward and several dimensions of time and space opened up before me simultaneously…" In Chapter 28 (I Get Publicly Snubbed By A Famous Swami) and Chapter 43 (Grace 'N Vessels Meets 8-Year-Old Shawn) Lyons shares his very public encounters, both positive and negative, with some of the most influential and impressive spiritual and religious leaders of our times. In Chapter 61 (Alternative Forms Of Energy) he describes a homeless man with the power to heal: "A ragged-looking street person walked up to him and held out his hands as if to offer Eric relief. Eric thought, 'What the hell', and let the man give it a try. The disheveled man in tattered clothes confidently placed his hands on Eric's forearms and in a flash of heat and energy Eric's pain was gone. As Eric looked from his forearms to the ragged stranger in amazement, the man stated, 'It's all God. It's all God', and went on his way…" And in Chapter 73 (Dead Men's Ghosts) Lyons shares a visitation by his own dead father on the morning of his father's funeral: "I felt a strong hand come out of nowhere, grab my right wrist and elbow… My mind and heart raced as I searched for an explanation… As I focused…I heard a distant voice yelling at me from somewhere. I turned my attention to the voice and saw my dead father materialize by my right shoulder. His face looked furious with frustration as he shouted over and over into my ear, 'Listen to me! Listen to me! Listen to me! ' 'Dad, I can hear you!' I said to the impassioned ghost standing beside me…" According to the author, "Frankly, if the experiences hadn't happened to me, I probably wouldn't believe half of them."
