May 26, 2005 (Press Release) --
FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE:
“Generation 2 is refreshing the face of Hip-Hop” by Jessica Manalo
An energetic young company with a knack for flavor and flair, Generation 2 is refreshing the face of Hip-Hop and dance. A family-oriented dance group with a unique style all their own, Gen 2 stays true to their close-knit nature and family values with this collection of cousins and family friends going back as far as childhood. Director and choreographer Shaun Evaristo has traveled throughout California and even to Japan in developing this incorporative style, equally influenced by each dancer and their own panache. Having performed all over the Bay Area, Gen 2 exudes a passionate love for dance. Besides their controlled body movement and gliding feet, separating them from the rest, it is their amazing chemistry on stage that makes Generation 2 a force to be recognized.
Evaristo hopes to share his art and passion with the community through this latest project, Elev8. Having traveled around the world, he sees how dance can influence and affect other people. He wishes to see the Bay Area dance community elevate to a new level.
Bringing the dance community together, he wants to take “[the] energy from the street on to the stage… [to give us a place to] perform our art.” A non-profit event sponsored in conjunction with the Daly City Parks & Recreation Department, Jalan Productions, Stablished, and WSPA, Elev8 is a festival, dance competition, and showcase. The festival starts at 4:00pm out in front of the San Mateo High School Theatre. With food, games, vendors, and of course impressive dance performances by Xplicit, Sicksyde, Groove Junkies, Abstact Styles, Gabe Bondoc, Super Frendz and many more, you’ll be covered from grubs to duds. The pre-show starts at 7:30pm in the theatre with special guest performers freestyling, working the turn-tables, and dropping beats. The show and dance competition start at 8:00pm. With competitors including Aftermath, Illusive, Impact, Danceaholix, JGD, TM Juniors, and APT taking the floor, audiences are in store for an exciting exhibition of dance skills. Following the competition Funkanometry SF, MOM, Boogie Monstarz, Soul Sector, and Urban FX will showcase their talents, with special performance by GEN2. On Saturday, May 28, 2005 at San Mateo High School, Elev8 promises to be “the freshest event to hit the Bay.”
