May 30, 2005 (Press Release) --
David Alstead is proud to announce that he recently cracked the top 40 songs playlist at “Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio”, an online all solo piano station whose mission is to introduce listeners to a carefully selected group of solo piano artists of whom they probably would not have otherwise heard. "Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio" is a collaborative promotional effort between pianists of similar style. In fact, more than having just cracked the top 40, David’s song “Can Aaron Come Out To Play” off his current CD “Piano For Both Ears” was listed at number 9. The top 40 list is for the last 30 days and is based on Live365's track rating system.
Listeners will appreciate the classical influences that are obvious in David's musical style, which are the result of his many years of classical piano training. In addition however, with David's tendency to encourage the inclusion of pop sensibilities and jazz chordal elements and structures into the music, you are as likely to hear Billy Joel, or Keith Green, or Dave Brubeck hidden just beneath the surface. His writing has been recognized by internationally renowned instrumental quartet Zeitgeist as a winner of their Eric Stokes Song Contest.
Dave has also been honored as Keyboard Magazine's "Unsigned Artist of the Month" in their September issue, and has been featured on National Public Radio's online music show, Open
Mic, a part of All Songs Considered. David is a performing pianist, and is continuing his career despite suffering from Meniere's Disease, a progressive syndrome that may eventually take his hearing. He lost the hearing in his left ear as the result of surgery at age 19 that cured the debilitating vertigo he had been suffering. He is also involved in local musical theatre performances, and this Summer is performing with the University of Minnesota’s Centennial Showboat Players.
