June 3, 2005 (Press Release) --
(New York – June, 2005) – The fourth annual Richard D. Lynch II Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 10 at the Great Rock Golf Club in Wading River, NY.
The tournament is named after Richard D. Lynch II, who died as a result of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. He left behind his wife, Christina, and daughter, Olivia, who was only one year old at the time of his death. Richard is the son of Dick Lynch, play-by-play announcer for the New York Giants for more than 35 years and a former Notre Dame football standout and all-pro defensive back for the New York Giants.
Former New York Giant Thomas Costello, co-owner of the Great Rock Golf Club along with the Pierce family of Roslyn, NY, organized the tournament. Costello pledged to raise $1 million to benefit Lynch’s family and several other children’s charities.
“During the past three years, we have been reaching out for support to past and present teammates and to New York athletes to participate in our fundraising golf tournament,” said Costello. “I am incredibly pleased that our event has so grown that now professional athletes from the entire sports world participate. The tournament has evolved into a truly remarkable event.”
In addition to Dick Lynch and Thomas Costello, others who are scheduled to attend include:
