Phoenix Az – The Nograf Network Inc. today announced it has awarded 2 Arizona volunteers, Betty Bellanger and Gerald Abmont, with the PRESIDENT’S CALL TO SERVICE AWARD, a national honor offered in recognition of lifetime volunteer service.
Established in 2003, the AWARD is available on an annual basis to individuals, groups and families who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering. As one of hundreds of Certifying Organizations participating in the AWARD program, The Nograf Network Inc confers the award to recognize the outstanding achievements of its volunteers.
The Nograf Network Inc has a long history of volunteer service, and more than 350 volunteers perform community service each year on behalf of the organization. Volunteers go out each day and remove graffiti from around their community. Other members work to increase the awareness of graffiti vandalism cost to communities.
“In his 2002 State of the Union Address, President George W. Bush created the USA Freedom Corps, and called on every American to make a lifelong commitment to volunteer service. PRESIDENT’S CALL TO SERVICE AWARD recognizes individuals and families who have answered that call,” said Randy Campbell, President of The Nograf Network Inc.
“America’s volunteers work to make our communities stronger and safer. As a Certifying Organization for the AWARD program, The Nograf Network Inc is proud to be aligned with this prestigious volunteer award, and we are especially proud of our volunteers who have made volunteer service a central part of their lives.”
The PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD is an award for volunteer service that every American – from every age and every walk of life – can aspire to achieve. To be eligible to receive the AWARD, individuals, families and groups submit a record of their annual volunteer service hours to participating Certifying Organizations, such as The Nograf Network Inc, that will verify the service and deliver the AWARD.
AWARD eligibility for individuals and groups is based on hour requirements varying by age.
“These recipients of the PRESIDENT’S CALL TO SERVICE AWARD are role models for all Americans,” Randy Campbell said. “Each volunteer hour contributed makes a difference in improving the quality of life for others, and I encourage everyone to contribute to our community by volunteering. Volunteers bring us closer together as families, as communities and as a Nation, through their commitment.”
The AWARD is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, a group created by President Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making to our Nation. Chaired by two-time Super Bowl Champion Darrell Green, with former U.S. Senators Bob Dole and John Glenn as honorary co-chairs, the Council comprises leaders in government, media, entertainment, business, education, nonprofits and volunteer service organizations, and community volunteering.
The Awards were presented at the Phoenix City Council Meeting.

About The Nograf Network Inc.
NoGraf is a place for abatement volunteers, police, graffiti consultants, vendors of anti-graffiti products, and community groups to share information, network, and build friendships. It is evidence that a common man, with uncommon zeal, can make a difference. Doug Smith, a homeowner in Pleasant Hill, California became angry when, in the early 1990’s, graffiti in his neighborhood reached critical mass. He decided to do something about it. Using the tool that is central to his profession as a software producer, the computer, Doug built an anti-graffiti web site and, as a result, started having dialogue with anti-graffiti advocates worldwide. As a result, Doug became an anti-graffiti linchpin for anti-graffiti advocates and experts. In mid-1997 he had dialog with Officer Randy Campbell of The California Highway Patrol who also had a Similar Computerized Graffiti information system, which he developed to assist Law Enforcement track graffiti vandals statewide. In 1999, the two systems were combined and The Nograf Network was officially founded and incorporated. The NoGraf Network has gone through many stages but has evolved into a complete information-clearing house for graffiti vandalism information. The NoGraf Network clearly fills a vital information need: over the years, Nograf has responded to over 50,000 requests for assistance from communities and neighborhood organizations, and has had over 5 million visits to our website. Our inventory of best practices is built and refreshed with input from our members – law enforcement professionals, educators, neighborhood associations, prosecutors, corrections officers, and other categories.
Common to all is their involvement in combating graffiti vandalism. With members on six continents and in nineteen countries, NoGraf is the largest organization of its kind in the United States and the world.
U.S. municipalities spend an estimated $15 to $18 billion per year combating graffiti vandalism. Although the annual outlay is immense, the efforts are “Balkanized,” since there is no coordinated linkage between the organizations and individuals involved. The NoGraf Network helps to provide that linkage, primarily through two member resources:
· The NoGraf Website, at www.NoGraffiti.com is a dynamic, growing resource, which provides background and best practice information to those involved in combating graffiti vandalism. In addition to the information available to the general public, members-only pages provide more sensitive information.
· The NoGraf Listserv links members on six continents and in 19 countries through a single email address. It is typically used to share information or to ask questions.
In combination, these two resources are powerful force multipliers for those involved in combating graffiti. The resources are provided at no cost.
Those who operate and maintain the NoGraf Network receive no monetary compensation.
