For_Immediate_Release:

June 10, 2005 (Press Release) -- With the success of the class at UBC combined with private beer tasting seminars, television and radio guests appearances, and co-hosting the First Annual Wine & Beer Festival at UBC, Just Here For The Beer is well on they way to setting the next big trend on the West Coast!

The brainchild of Rick Mohabir, Zayvin Haqq and Colin Jack has developed into a popular and unique experience for students at UBC. Just Here For The Beer started as group of guys gathering together to taste some beer has now become a popular extra curricular program.

Just Here For The Beer also offers private seminars at locations all throughout the Lower Mainland. “There is a real buzz about trying something unique and different” according to Zayvin Haqq. “We try to give participants a chance to try new beers, most of the beers they may never get a chance to taste”, he adds.

Rick Mohabir, another one of the instructors believes that this can be a rewarding experience for students. “We educate students about beer appreciation and knowledge and help them develop a positive beer experience”. Each week these “beer experts” prepare a lectures, discussions and do PowerPoint presentations on a variety of topics ranging from the different types of beer, the brewing process, the history of beer, how to match beer with food and to the sociology of beer in Canadian society.

The “beer experiences” of Rick, Zayvin and Colin were, in their own words, “pathetic!”. They had all tried a few Microbrews here and there and they had done some traveling and tried some international products but their tasting lacked imagination. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that things started to change for the better. Jack accepted a job with the Alma Mater Society (AMS) at UBC while he was working towards his Bachelor of Education. There was already a successful Wine Tasting & Education class being held and Jack thought it would be a natural progression to offer a Beer Tasting & Education class. Rick, Zayvin and Colin started contacting microbrews, brewpubs, and large breweries arranging to go visit to learn more about the companies, the beers they produce and the brewing process. They would take all of this information and provide it to the eager ears of the students in the classroom. They also write articles and do weekly beer reviews on their website: www.justhereforthebeer.com.

The response to the class and the new company has been very positive Jack smiled and said “You definitely feel you are doing something worthwhile, unique, and fun when people start to clap and cheer after the first class”.

Just Here For The Beer teaches the popular Beer Tasting and Education Classes at UBC three times a year and will be teaching classes at local community centres starting this fall. For further information or to arrange a private beer tasting seminar contact them through their website, by phone (604-722-7060) or by email: colin@justhereforthebeer.com.
