This July, six-year-old Josiah Schultz―a budding young paleontologist―will be traveling to Drumheller, Alberta, the “Dinosaur Capital of the World” with the help of Project Drumheller.

Victoria, BC – June 19th, 2005 ~ This July, six-year-old Josiah Schultz―a budding young paleontologist―will be traveling to Drumheller, Alberta, the “Dinosaur Capital of the World”. Since the age of 3, Josiah has been fascinated by dinosaurs. He can give detailed information on practically any dinosaur that ever roamed the earth. Instead of watching Disney movies, this young paleontologist-to-be watches the BBC series Walking with Dinosaurs, Prehistoric Planet, Mega Beasts, National Geographic Dinosaur Hunters and more.
Project Drumheller, http://www.projectdrumheller.com, has become more than a little boy’s dream, it has become a movement―a plea for compassion, and support for a hard-working single mother’s dedication and determination to see that her son realizes his dreams. Victoria area residents can help send young Josiah Schultz to the home of The World's Largest Dinosaur by visiting Lisa and Josiah’s refreshment stand where lemonade and dino cookies will be sold every Sunday in June at the Estevan Street Market in Victoria, from noon to 4.
Canadian mystery author Cheryl Kaye Tardif became involved in Project Drumheller from its incubation and she is now acting as publicity coordinator for the event. Tardif is a longtime friend of Lisa’s and ‘Auntie Bopni’ to Josiah. To show her support Tardif, an Edmonton author, has authorized Josiah and Lisa to sell her novels, Whale Song and Divine Intervention during their fundraising events at the Estevan Street Market. 50% of the proceeds will go toward their trip. Tardif has contacted media sources, sent out press releases and designed the Project Drumheller website. She also enlisted the assistance of another talented writer, editor and friend, Kate Leighton.
Leighton is the creator of Mindful Canada, a website that is devoted to showcasing ways that Canadians can make “mindful choices”. MindfulCanada.com has donated passes to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller and $50.00 towards gas for the trip, and they have posted an article on Josiah and Lisa on their site. Leighton also used her contacts to help promote Josiah’s story and to ask for support from some well-known companies. To date, Leighton is working on a possible sponsorship by a major fast-food chain. If this goes through then Josiah’s Project Drumheller is going to be a sensational vacation and learning experience, one that is sure to keep his enthusiasm for dinosaurs alive for years to come.
As a result of the collaborative efforts of Tardif and Leighton, Josiah and Lisa have been interviewed on CBC Radio, Victoria, and a leading US talk show has requested a videotape (do we see a future trip to the US for Josiah and his mom?). Elaine Secord from the Royal Tyrrell Museum has offered to arrange some special activities for Josiah and his mother, including complimentary participation in some of their summer programs.
