June 22, 2005 (Press Release) --
Vancouver,Washington - While it may be one of the hottest growing neighborhoods in the Northwest, downtown Vancouver lacks much of the creativity that has set it apart from its sister city - Portland.
"We're hoping that downtown won't be filled with chain restaurants like the rest of the city," Denise Meara says, "It's great to have Coldstone Creameries and Subways, but not on every corner. I'm hoping they'll make downtown like a 23rd Avenue - filled with independent shops, artists and unique restaurants."
With the Hilton Vancouver Washington opening, many residents are hoping that the new prestige associated with downtown will lure potential investors to the area. "We desperately need more boutiques and hip night spots," adds Meara, "And a sushi place would be nice."
