VANCOUVER,WASHINGTON - Things are picking up in the Esther Short Park community. The new Hilton Vancouver Washington opened its doors a few weeks ago and the city has been pouring millions of dollars into downtown revitalization. Now the only thing missing, residents say, is a grocery store.
Trader Joe's, a popular grocery chain, is thought to be the perfect new neighbor in a growing residential area. "We'd love to have Trader Joe's in our neighborhood," Theresa Smith said, "If the store was here I wouldn't have to drive to Jantzen Beach to get my groceries."
Several community members have been eyeing a key location on Main Street - that of the old Clausen Office Supply. "It is such a large building, it is close to everything, and if it was turned into a Trader Joe's it could revitalize all of Main Street," Smith adds.
This wouldn't be the first time a group of community members contacted Trader Joe's to bring them into their downtown. After the revitalization of downtown Gresham, residents of the area formed a group and contacted Trader Joe's. "We needed a grocery store so bad. It was hard work, but in the end, it paid off," Jenn Gaul said.
