June 25, 2005 (Press Release) --
Upcoming Swimwear Fashion for the 2005 Season

It’s all about the bottle. What’s inside that long necked wide bottomed bottle could very well be explosive or could very well be subtle. See, the thing is, selecting a good wine is like selecting a good swimsuit. They exhibit a ubiquitous nature – unique for every occasion, for every place, for every person. Some love a fruity tang and others savor sweetness. Depends on palette. I like Lambrusco personally. A red grape cultivated in Central Italy, Lambrusco fits nicely with seafood because of a refreshing fritz.
Lambrusco could also describe 2005’s swimwear fashion season; a sweet little drink that matches the beach or refreshes an evening by the pool. Hot swimwear doesn’t have to be picked off vines in central Italy. They start more simply. Swimwear trends spring from the runways or from a sea of people crowded on South Beach. As Spring Break hits and parties begin, everybody wants to be at the beach.
“The beach… offers something alluring and special. The sounds of ocean waves hitting the beach take your mind and body to a better place… it is aromatherapy for the ears,” says Jodi Randolph, Vice-President and Designer for Venus Swimwear.
And swimwear is an aphrodisiac for the body. So what will arouse our scent this year? I wanted to dig up the skinny on the upcoming swimwear season to discover what ought to be in style this year – so I asked a few of swimwear’s hottest designers – because the search for a perfect bikini should be every bit as enjoyable as the hunt for that ideal wine.
Swimwear trends start with sportswear, South Beach, our kids, and on the runways of New York, Paris, and Milan. Designer and CEO Ritchie Berger of Ritchie Swimwear put it this way, “Trends are like colors… there’s some energy going on there. [They] manifest themselves from some inexplicable force… the entire world thinks about [a trend] at the same time. I don’t think one person can make a trend. People have to welcome it.”
Belts and belly chains, which showed up last year, are even more important this year. Don’t forget the emphasis on colors: browns, pinks, greens, and turquoise to light blues. Prints without a lot of texture mixed with pure colors and low to mid-rise bottoms designed to be straighter across the hip will also be popular flavors of the season. Halter-tops continue to be very strong, as well as colors that flatter skin tone. Also showing up in high demand this season will be very feminine designs, bright colors, suits with embellishments, prints, Pearl Harbor floral, retro 80’s couture styles, and cuts that cover more.
