June 27, 2005 (Press Release) --
Welsh Alternative Comedian Dave Fellows (a.k.a. Psycho Dave) has been cast to play Dylan Thomas
in the latest film to feature Wales's most well know poet.
To be more precise Mr Fellows is to play the 'spirit' of Dylan
Thomas, as the film explores the relationship between the dead poets
ghost and an American student who arrives in Swansea in search of
answers to a family riddle.
Dave Fellows said:
'It’ll be interesting to play the poet making a return journey to a
twenty first century Swansea – the script has many poignant and
humorous observations”
The play upon which the film is based, 'Ugly Lovely Night' was
written by Swansea University lecturer Binda Singh who also wrote
the screenplay. The film is being financed by BJB Productions a
company specialising in backing film, televison and theatre projects.
Brian Thomas the producer described the film as ...
“It is a kind of modern day Kapra-esque type story. Almost a modern
day Welsh 'It’s A Wonderful Life'. We have a very tight shooting
schedule which includes a trip to Texas. We hope to run a preview
screening in Swansea in early November'.
Main filming is due to begin in the United States in early August
and then move to Swansea University campus. The producers hope to
visit other important Dylan 'linked' locations all around South
Wales. Casting sessions held recently at the Dylan Thomas Centre
resulted in a several new faces being hired to star in the movie.
