June 30, 2005 (Press Release) --
Philadelphia, PA -- ETC Theater Group of King of Prussia, PA will present 1WG...Melissa Gilbert, An Unauthorized Play from September 10 through September 17 at the 2005 Philly Fringe Festival. 1WG is a one woman musical base on the life of Melissa Gilbert. The play follows Gilbert as she reflects on such topics as adoption, Little House on the Prarie and her signature "made for TV" movies. The play also chronicles her romances to Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe and Bruce Boxleitner as well as her relationship with Michael Landon and her feud with Valerie Harper.
1WG (One Woman Gilbert) opened earlier this year, delighting suburban audiences, which led to inclusion in this years festival. Like all ETC productions, the unauthorized play includes an original script written by theater founder, Todd Cardin. It also feautures original music written by Cardin and Nick D'Alleva. D'Alleva performs acoustic guitar in the play accompaning Emily Cardin, who stars as Gilbert.
Although 1WG is billed as a one woman musical there are countless celebrities who appear on stage throough the magic of interactive television. The character interacts with the TV, the musician, as well as the audience throughout the entire ninety minute performance. The play contains ten original songs performed by Emily Cardin and Nick D'Alleva .
With it's mainstream appeal, 1WG seems a suprising choice for the Fringe Festival, which is know for cutting edge, sometimes gritty material. "The play is anything but fringe." said writer Todd Cardin. "It's a musical comedy that appeals to everyone. But, " he adds, "You just don't see original musicals anymore. That alone puts us on the edge. When you add in the interactive media that we use, it creates a pretty unique experience."
