-- Air Traffic Control Trainees Can Test Their Mettle with Near-Live Situations --
Alexandria, Va.- June 6, 2005 - Flight Explorer, the world's most trusted and accepted provider of Internet-based, real-time global flight tracking information, reporting and display products, today announced that it is launching a new version of Flight Explorer Personal Edition™. The new product will integrate with ATCsimulator®2 to provide users with near-live Flight Explorer data for air traffic simulation. By using the enhanced versions of both products, users can control live traffic, rather than using canned scenarios.
ATCsimulator®2 is the #1 selling air traffic simulation software for the PC and is used at various universities, both domestically and abroad, to teach the fundamentals of Air Traffic Control. It features a complete photorealistic ARTS-IIIa terminal, or STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System) display, recreated with exacting detail.
Flight Explorer Personal Edition is designed for use by private pilots and aviation enthusiasts who want to track air traffic on IFR flight plans in the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands; Canada; New Zealand; and parts of the Atlantic and Pacific. Data is delayed by only five minutes.
Walt Kross, CEO of Flight Explorer, said, “High-quality air traffic control training is one of the cornerstones of the modern aviation industry. We’re excited to team up with ATCsimulator®2 to put near real-time Flight Explorer data into the hands of trainees and air traffic veterans alike as they sharpen their skills. ”
Russell B. Davis, Author of ATCsimulator®2, said, “By combining the features of both products, the user will experience what it’s really like to work a shift at some of the busiest airports in the United States as an Air Traffic Control Specialist, one of the most prestigious occupations of the aviation industry."
Flight Explorer Personal Edition and ATCsimulator®2 can be used separately or as an integrated package. Users can track live flights in any of the 120 TRACONS included in ATCsimulator®2 and interact with virtual targets to issue approach or departures clearances, speed and altitude restrictions, and execute handoffs to appropriate facilities. Users can also customize the airport filter within the ATCsimulator®2 terminal airspace to target specific air traffic. For the integration, users must purchase both products, but free upgrades are provided to current customers of both products. visit http://www.atcsimulator.com
