July 4, 2005 (Press Release) --
The Cagewarriors Middleweight Champion Matt Ewin is back at Cagewarriors on July 16th as he looks to put behind him a controversial no contest with Damien Riccio at Strike Force 1 in May, when he defends his title against the Danish Destroyer Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann. Ewin was supposed to take on his arch nemesis Damien Riccio again at Strike Force 2, however the Frenchman pulled out due to Doctor’s advice because of numerous injuries. (This fight will now take place at CW:SF 3 on September 24th)
Upon hearing the news Cagewarriors President Dougie Truman contacted his European network and was able to find a solid replacement for Matt Ewin in the form of Martin Kampmann. Kampmann, who has already beaten Matt Ewin at the House of Pain Fight Night 2 show in Wales earlier this year. On that date Kampmann walked away with the win after a series of wicked elbow shots by Kampmann resulted in Ewin being unable to come out for round 2. Now Ewin wants revenge and stated last week on Pro Karate Weekly that he was controlling the bout up to that point and is confident about winning the rematch and defending his title at the Skydome Arena, Coventry on July 16th. However he has struggled as of late and is without a win in his last 5 fights against foreign opposition in other shows.
Whilst Martin Kampamnn at only 23 years old has already impressed many with his strength and all round ability. Despite his age Kampmann is already a former Danish Thai Boxing Champion, a Submission Wrestling Champion and also has experience in professional boxing too. These all round skills have helped Kampmann to a total MMA record of 9-2 and he has looked impressive as of late by defeating Ewin back in March, as well as defeating the likes of Xavier Foupa-Pokam and Toni Vivas.
However Kampmann’s most significant victory came at KOTC UK on June 24th when he defeated the then 8-6-1, American Brendan Seguin via KO with a perfect head kick which sent the multi time KOTC and Superbrawl veteran crashing to the canvas.
Can Kampmann return to the UK and capture the CWFC Title? On July 16th at the Skydome Arena, 3000 fans will find out. Tickets start at just 10 pounds with over 1200 standard tickets sold already and with VIP tables selling fast don't delay.
