20th Century Fox has acquired screenwriters Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon's supernatural thriller "Tokyo Ghost Story."
The project is based on a Japanese myth about a Yurei, or the ghost of a jilted lover who commits suicide but returns to lead the offending lover to destruction and/or death. Konzelman and Solomon's credits include "Stealing Tomorrow" for MGM.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -- Lakeshore Entertainment has bought "Barking Orders," a spec screenplay by Scott Sommer. Details are being kept under wraps, but it is known that the script is a family comedy. Sommer is writing "Open Season 2" for Sony's animation division and has "Daniel Boone" set up at Fox.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -- Hand Picked Films has acquired intellectual property rights to "The Black Belt Club," by children's book author Dawn Barnes.
Principals Anthony Romano and Michel Shane, who were exec producers of "I, Robot" and "Catch Me If You Can," paid mid-six figures for the Scholastic graphic novel series about a globe-trotting multicultural karate club.
The producers plan to turn the book into make an animated television series, direct-to-DVD movies, video games and feature films based around the story line of the 12-book franchise.
