ANSALDO SIGNAL FIRST TO DEPLOY ERTMS TECHNOLOGY IN INDIA

(Free-Press-Release.com) July 8, 2005 -- Ansaldo Signal, through its subsidiary Union Switch & Signal (US&S) India, is creating history by securing the first ever Train Protection Warning System (TPWS) contracts awarded by Indian Railways.

In March 2005, US&S was successful in winning the contract to design, install, test and commission the first ever TPWS system awarded by Indian Railways on the Southern Railway sector of Indian Railways. But most significantly, for the first time in history, a project in India was fully based on the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and in conformity with ETCS level 1 specifications.

This first contract success for the Southern line set an important technology milestone for Indian Railways and has resulted in US&S India securing the second TPWS contract awarded by Indian Railways for the Northern line.

US&S India will implement this new contract on the Delhi to Agra line, in the Northern & North Central Railway sectors of Indian Railways. This second TPWS project will also be based on ERTMS standards.

Indian Railways focus for their rail system is safety and efficiency. The introduction of the ERTMS technology is a major step for Indian Railways in their drive to implement state of the art systems that improve the operational safety of their rail network.

As a result US&S India will be implementing the first ERTMS type technology in India, a significant and major achievement. Introducing this technology into the Indian Railway market provides Ansaldo Signal with the distinction to be the first to set the technology standard for this market, therefore gaining a similar leadership advantage in the Indian Railway market as with Microlok.

On another matter, US&S India has also been awarded yet another Microlok II order in Bangladesh. US&S will design, supply, install, test, and commission Microlok II systems for 12 stations along the East Zone of the Akhaura to Sylhet section of Bangladesh Railways (BR). US&S India secured this award on May 27, with the project to be completed by the end of June 2006.
