July 12, 2005 (Press Release) --
Shannon scooped the CCI’s Best Irish Airport of the Year Award 2005 which is one of nine awards presented by the Chamber’s Air Transport Users Council (ATUC) on an annual basis to airports and airlines operating in the Irish market.
Shannon Airport director, Martin Moroney who was presented with the award by Transport Minister, Martin Cullen said that he was delighted to accept it on behalf of everyone at the airport, whose hard work and dedication had resulted in their achievement.
"Shannon Airport and its staff have a long tradition of pioneering and adapting to change in the aviation industry and during the last few months we’ve seen an unprecedented increase in activity at the airport with the number of scheduled routes doubling to 34.
"Shannon Airport Authority’s vision is to create a viable and sustainable independent airport that will become a major business and leisure gateway to the West of Ireland. We have come a long way towards achieving that goal and this award is proof that we are responding to the needs of our business customers by providing low cost regular access to UK, European and the US destinations,” he said.
Expressing continued optimism for the years ahead, the airport director said he was confident that Shannon would continue to be a catalyst for economic development in the West of Ireland.
He reiterated the Airport Authority’s commitment to further developing the range of Shannon’s air services and thanked their customers for their continuing support of the airport.
