Cancer Sucks donating $50,000 to Oklahoma University for cancer research

Brothers Rick Horton and Frank White founded Cancer Sucks in 2000 based on their mother's cancer experience. After the 1996 death of Donna Holland White, family members rode their motorcycles to Florida in memory of Donna, also an avid motorcycle rider. When we returned Rick had shirts made that said 1st Annual CANCER SUCKS Road Trip and the brothers started Cancer Sucks by launching www.cancersucks.com. The "Charity with Attitude," has a simple mission statement to guide them. "Provide a forum for those who have lost loved ones to cancer while aggressively raising money to find a cure. No one should have to go through what millions of cancer victims, survivors and those left behind have endured." Cancer Sucks is a non profit organization dedicated to the loving memory of Donna Holland White.

The all volunteer organization has been successful due to amazing corporate support and individual volunteers. On July 23rd during half time of the Tulsa Talons football game, this organization will write the largest check they have ever written when they make a donation of $25,000.00 for cancer research to the University of Oklahoma. A group of doctors from the OU Department of Otorhinolarngology heard about the possible gift to their department and decided they were going to match it. The $25,000.00 raised by over 1,000 participants in our 2nd Annual Handlebars & Hot Rods Poker Run at Cherokee Casino is now a $50,000.00 donation!

This donation will be used to purchase brand new equipment in The Laryngology Clinical and Research Laboratory at OU. The lab allows Department physicians to research and perform critical diagnostic evaluations of patients with vocal cord disorders, patients with diseases of the larynx and patients with early cancers of the vocal cords and other areas of the larynx. The modern equipment to be purchased with this donation will enable the lab to diagnose these disorders with great accuracy, plan treatment precisely and document graphically the initial condition and its response to treatment. This is particularly important in patients with subtle voice disorders and in patients with early cancers that are treated with radiation or with lasers. Patients with vocal cord and neck cancers will be one step closer to a cure with the help of Cancer Sucks, Inc.
