July 13, 2005 (Press Release) --
(Wild Rose Elementary School, Monrovia, CA). Wild Rose Elementary School, 232 Jasmine, Monrovia, is asking for donations of school supplies from the community. Wild Rose teaches grades Kindergarten through Fifth grade. It needs 8 pack large crayons, 16 pack regular crayons, #2 pencils, washable markers, pink erasers, colored pencils, dry-erase markers, blunt scissors, and especially, glue sticks and Kleenex.
"This school year will be an especially hard year for our students and teachers," said Dr. Audrey Lambert, Principal. "Budget cuts already mean that the school district won't be able to provide busing for our students. We just don't have the money to buy supplies for our students who need them," she added. For the last school year, 2003 to 2004, 66% of Wild Rose's students were considered low income.
"So many of the office supply stores have great sales on school supplies in August," Dr. Lambert continued. "This is a great opportunity to buy these small, inexpensive items and donate them to the school."
The request for dry erase markers may seem unusual, especially for those old enough to remember the fun of being the student chosen to clap erasers together out on the playground. In recent years, white boards have begun replacing most chalkboards. Whiteboards are sturdier, last longer, and are easier for students to read.
Donations may be dropped off from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Wild Rose Elementary School Office. The school office is staffed beginning August 15, 2005. The first day of this school year is August 31, 2005.
