Limerick city Sinn Fein vice-chairperson, Maurice Quinlivan, said that he was "particularly happy that the company has been in consultation with Limerick City Council and the Limerick Civic Trust in relation to this matter."
"Since I first brought attention to the memorial’s state of disrepair I have been contacted by many members of the public who expressed their concern about the future of the memorial. The statement from Damesfield Ltd is very welcome and will go a long way towards allaying public fears regarding the memorial."
Mr Quinlivan had voiced his fears that the "important public memorial” may be damaged while the Strand Hotel site was being redeveloped.
