Saudi Arabia & UAE Account For 77% Of Gulf IT Spend Of US$ 4.94 Billion - IDC

Organisers Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) announced that GITEX 2005 reported a noticeable surge in exhibitors from Saudi Arabia with companies booking around 1200 square metres of net floor space at the event this year up by 20% from last year.
“A total of 31 exhibitors from Saudi Arabia representing a cross section of the industry have booked space at GITEX 2005, as the exhibition once again confirms its credentials as the Middle East's largest and most important information technology event,” said DWTC Director General, Helal Saeed Khalfan Al Marri.
He noted that the upsurge in exhibitors was in harmony with IDC projections for the mature IT markets of the Gulf region. “According to the IDC, Saudi Arabia and the UAE between them account for 77% of the Gulf’s current annual IT spend of AED 18.12 billion (US$4.94 billion),” Mr. Al Marri remarked.
Prominent among the Saudi Arabian companies that have confirmed participation at GITEX 2005 include Saudi Telecom Corporation, Saudisoft, Jeraisy, Ariss Computer, Al Elm Computer Security, Star ME, Advanced Electronics.
GITEX 2005 will showcase an entire range of IT related products and services including IT equipment and systems, computer components and peripherals, storage media, printers, copiers and pre-print systems, consumer electronics and home automation, office automation, point-of-sale systems, embedded computer technology, security systems, power supplies for information and communication systems and biometric identification systems.
The show also attracts a large number of exhibitors from telecommunications, wireless and networks, software and services and banking technology and financial services.
GITEX 2004 welcomed over 939 exhibitors representing more than 2,428 companies from 41 countries. The record-breaking event utilised all the halls at the DWTC, including a tented structure, covering a net area of 27,504 square metres and attracted 116,346 trade visitors.
