July 18, 2005 (Press Release) --
The flame haired Irish movie star is the widow of Captain Charlie Blair, who flew the last scheduled passenger plane from Foynes to New York way back in 1945. She’s been a loyal supporter of this annual festival since its inception in the 1991.
Still a potent draw in her 80s, Mrs Blair had a hectic schedule as this year’s festival promised fireworks, a food fair of local delicacies, the Samhlú parade, a gospel choir, puppet theatre, band recitals, a children’s art exhibition and much activity on the river.
"The 2005 Irish Coffee Festival is a tribute to all those who were involved in the Flying Boat era at Foynes,” declared Margaret O’Shaughnessy, festival director at the launch.http://www.limerick.com
