On May 26, 2004 the DOL finalized the new COBRA regulations. These regulations finally provide a check off list of required in formation for both the General Notice and Election Notice.
The DOL has also created two new COBRA notices – the COBRA Ending Early Notice and Not Eligible for COBRA Notice.
This seminar discusses all of four of the COBRA communications, their purposes, what they should include and who should receive them.
The attendee will be able to discuss the history of COBRA.
The attendee will be able to review new timeline.
The attendee will be able to describe the Trade Act 2002.
Material will be presented by Ouida Peterson. Ouida Peterson Ouida Peterson is the owner of Attitude Is Everything and is the vice president of Education and Product Development of CONEXIS, a national COBRA, HIPAA and 125 Plan compliance service. Her business time is shared with public speaking engagements and insurance sales and consulting. Ms. Peterson has been involved with the COBRA and HIPAA regulations since the introduction of the laws. Much of her practical knowledge of the insurance industry and these laws comes from her 23 years of experience working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBSTX) and 32 years of working with the Agent community. In her past experience with BCBSTX and her professional organization, the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU), Ms. Peterson has conducted more than 800 seminars and approved continuing education classes on topics involving insurance legislation, especially COBRA and HIPAA. She is often sought for consumer education opportunities on these same topics, as well as “Hamburger Insurance” (the reality of socialized health care reform), “Medicare and Its Options,” “Health Care – Sumptin’ Done Went Wrong” (the history and future of health insurance) and the “Aging of America or What Do You Want for Your 100th Birthday?” Ms. Peterson was honored in 1996 by NAHU as the first recipient of the William G. Wetzel Excellence in Public Speaking Award. She credits Mr. Wetzel as her inspiration, mentor and hero. Ms. Peterson has also received the NAHU Distinguished Service Award and numerous Texas Association of Health Underwriter service awards including the Outstanding Texan of the Year and in 2000, the Association’s most coveted honor of recognition, the Hollis Roberson Award. She is recognized as a charter board member of the National Association’s Education Foundation and has served on the State Association Board since 1993. Ms. Peterson received her B.S. degree in secondary education from East Texas State University.
