July 26, 2005 (Press Release) --
The "Say No To Drugs" campaign, sponsored by the Church of Scientology in Denmark has since 1991 actively been working on making the public, including the youth aware of the dangers of drugs. This despite the signals from some corners telling that there is no danger whatsoever connected to drugs. Well, whoever wants to introduce the "Amsterdam" model in Copenhagen is invited to take a personal look at the capital of Holland and see how far down this place has gone since the moment that "a joint was ok to smoke in the middle of the street". And the writer knows what he is talking about; he is from Holland!
4 weeks ago a Danish police official made the statement in Danish media that the war on drugs was lost. The police has in general the task to handle the day to day problems arising from drug addiction, handle the criminality connected to it, a rather unthankful task having to handle the problems created from other corners.
Just last week a report came out stating that the police in Copenhagen does not have enough personel to handle the drug problem. The reaction of the Danish police is understandable, left alone with the mess they have not been involved in to create. Since 10 years the Danish association "Say No To Drugs, Say yes To Life" has worked together with schools, teachers, parents, police and other organizations to eradicate the scourge of drugs. Through education has this problem effectively been tackled.
"Education on the subject of drugs is the effective solution for the drug problem we have in this society. If kids know what drugs do, what they really are, they will say no to them when the time demands to say no. An after all that is what counts", says national coordinator for this campaign in Denmark, Christine Astrupgaard."Harm reduction is no solution as it adjusts the enviroment to the drug addict instead of adjusting the addict to the society through effective drug rehabilitation programs like Narconon. We are really up against harm reduction as a strategy in the tackling of the drug problem in Denmark That is why we continue with our campaign. So far we have distributed 600.000 booklets on drugs in Denmark, all payed by members of the Church of Scientology, which sponsors this campaign." Astrupgaard considers that the war on drugs is not lost at all. L. Ron Hubbard developped not only methods to handle drug addiction but also inspired the anti drug campaigns which are being conducted all over Europe right now. The results of this information campaign in Denmark, the positive responds from kids, youngters and parents as well as teachers show there is a need for this type of education on this subject. And education is the answer to the drug problem. With that the war on drugs has not been lost at all. And it is important that this fight is being continued.
