NJ store offers free adult DVDs to people donating canned food to the needy.

Edison NJ- Deirdre Krasner has never been one to rest
on her laurels. She’s the type of individual who
tackles problems head on. In March of 2005 she made
international headlines when she sent several gross of
condoms to Merriwa in New South Wales Australia after
learning that the only pharmacist in the area refused
to sell them despite the tiny town having the highest
teen pregnancy rate in the area. In 2004 she raised
eyebrows with a unique food drive, but raising
eyebrows isn’t her goal. “To some my methods may seem
outrageous,” says Deirdre Krasner, “but I get the job
done. Last November we collected over 371 cans of food
for the needy. This year our goal is a half ton of
canned food.” Deirdre plans to reach her half-ton goal
through her Food 4 Porn program, operated from
Playtime, her store in Edison, NJ. Playtime manger
Mike Drake explains; “It’s a very simple program, you
just bring in a can of food 13 ounces or larger and we
give you a free adult DVD, a $19.95 value. That’s it!
Second Harvest, America's largest charity dealing with
hunger, estimates that eight million children go to
bed hungry each night. We know Playtime’s Food 4 Porn
program can’t feed them all, but if we can help fill
the bellies of even a few dozen children we will have
helped make a difference. America is the richest
nation in the world, it is inexcusable that we allow
so many of our most helpless citizens, the children,
to starve while we throw food away.” Playtime
General Manager Nick Smerecki added, “Last year
our Food 4 Porn program not only gathered over 371
cans of food but raised awareness of hunger as well.
It’s important that people realize that hunger isn’t
just a problem in other countries or other states but
right here, in our very own town. If every community
in the country made a point to raise awareness of this
problem we could go a long way towards giving people
not only full bellies but hope as well.”
Renowned cartoonist Angus Oblong, creator of Fox’s The
Oblongs and author of Creepy Suzy, commented on
Food4Porn.com while at a screening of his award winning pilot,
Deliriously Jen; “I think it’s a great and innovative
program and I applaud Deirdre Krasner and her staff at
Playtime. That is why I have offered my services to
help design a Food4Porn.com t-shirt to be sold
exclusively at the Playtime store in Edison. All
profits from the sale of the shirts will be used to
buy more canned food. My only regret is that I did not become involved sooner, as I would have loved to have included information about Food4Porn.com onto my DVD of THE OBLONGS, in stores now”
