August 1, 2005 (Press Release) --
Steamboat Springs, CO. The Rick Granard IECA Memorial Fund, established in 2000 to honor International Erosion Control Association (IECA) past-president and industry pioneer Rick Granard, will be re-launched in 2006 as the Rick Granard International Development Fund. Monies in the fund will be used to support international growth of the association through development of international chapters and the IECA Ambassador program.
The IECA Board of Directors voted in July to re-launch the fund with a new name and more clearly defined purpose. Monies currently in the fund will be used for scholarships to bring international (non-U.S.) students to Environmental Connection, IECA’s annual conference, in February 2006. Following the conference, all monies contributed to the fund will be used either to establish a financial base for the fund or to directly fund international activities through the IECA Ambassadors. Ambassadors will send requests for funding to the International Development Committee for approval.
Funding will be used to enhance and grow IECA's Ambassador Program and subsequent chapter formation in areas represented by Ambassadors. Explains Meg Tully, IECA Chapter Development Director, “The funding will enable the appointment of new Ambassadors to represent more countries. The funding also can be used to encourage mutually beneficial partnerships with groups from abroad that can further IECA's presence in the global arena.”
Tully adds, “Our Ambassadors know the unique needs of the members in their specific regions and will work with IECA to get some of those specific needs addressed. Funding to support our Ambassadors will allow IECA to make some real progress on becoming a truly international organization. “ Ambassadors have requested funds to support projects such as translation of web pages and informational brochures into other languages, small networking meetings and workshops and support to attend Environmental Connection.
The Rick Granard IECA Memorial Fund was originally established with the purpose of perpetuating the goals, objectives and ideals that Granard supported before passing away from cancer in February, 2000. Granard was a pioneer in the development of soil stabilization techniques; in 1968 he founded Environmental Soil Systems, Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of erosion control products. Granard was also a tireless advocate of IECA’s international growth, and chaired the IECA Chapter Development Committee for six years.
Contributions to the fund are placed in a separate interest-bearing account and are used only to support the purpose of the fund. Donations are tax deductible, and can be sent to:
