Feline PKD DNA Testing Update

August 2, 2005

Veterinary Diagnostics Center (VDC) in Fairfield, Ohio is now offering DNA Testing for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) among Persian, Himalayan, and Exotic Cats.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 2, 2005 -- PKD is an inherited autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the formation of cysts on the kidneys which could lead to eventual renal failure and possible death.

Anyone can collect feline DNA samples using a buccal (cheek) swab and testing can be performed on cats of any age.

We provide a detailed DNA report showing the cats genotype for PKD. The 3 possible genotypes include:
N/N (2 copies of the normal allele)
N/P Heterozygote (1 normal copy and 1 copy of the PKD mutation)
P/P (2 copies of the PKD mutation).
