August 5, 2005 (Press Release) --
The world benefits when Anna Leung combines her passion for good parenting and her love for technology. Being mother of a teenager, she knows first hand the challenge for maintaining open and respectful relationship between parents and teens.
Leung practiced parenting skill she gained from research. She felt confident in raising her son until the year he entered middle school. When she couldn't find her an ideal parent-child contract program, she decided to build one on the internet and share it with the world. Cohesi.com was conceived because one mother's need to raise her son to be a productive and responsible citizen.
"I found a few parenting software and kits that keep track of chores list and allowance, but none shares my philosophy," says Leung, "the authoritarian nature of traditional consequences demotes democracy and shunt open communication that teens and parents so desperately needed. What I have been using was parent-child contract with inherent consequences that go both ways."
In May 2005, cohesi.com was launched with its flagship service, christened Cohesi Mission. It is a web-based parent-child contract members create and use for free. The web site also includes many informative links to other family oriented sites, and inspiring articles on parenting.
In an email to Leung, Dr. Sylvia Cary, an experienced teacher who had taught music in Portland Public School and Lewis and Clark College, wrote "I had visited your web site and applause your effort in providing such great service to families. Having worked with many students for so many years and raised four children myself, made me a believer in using consequences for positive learning. I am impressed with your web site because it raises that belief to a higher level."
"If raising an only child in a successful marriage feels challenging to me, it is hard to imagine life in a blended family with multiple children," Leung explains, "the internet is a great source for parenting information; however there is a lack of tool to put those information into practice. My goal for cohesi.com is to build great internet tools for families to improve their lives."
