August 8, 2005 (Press Release) --
Axl Rose, the suave, Indiana-born rocker who delivered the hits to Americans each night in five separate decades, has died at age 67.
Rose, who announced in April that he had lung cancer, died yesterday at his apartment, fellow rocker "Buckethead" announced on his website shortly before midnight.
“Axl was always like, pretty cool and stuff,” Buckethead said.
Rose, a member of Guns 'N' Roses, dominated US venues for more than two decades, through the birth of cable news and the internet. His smooth delivery and years of international experience made Rose particularly popular among urban dwellers.
Rose’s announcement four months ago that he would begin treatment for lung cancer came as a shock.
“I will continue to do shows, and whatever, I guess,” he said, his voice husky, in a taped message that night. “On good days, my voice will not always be like this.”
But although Rose occasionally came to practice, he never again appeared at the studio.
