Gary D. Morgan To Direct "I Knew You'd Say That".
Gary D. Morgan announced today that he will be “directing the world premiere of a one-act play entitled “I Knew You'd Say That!” by John Kearns. “I Knew You’d Say That!” is a quintessential New York City tale which takes place on the #6 train which travels from 59th Street to 86th Street. A couple discusses commitment issues, while the three major New York City newspapers are personified by passengers on the train.
Mr. Morgan stated that "there is no finer work for my directing debut than a John Kearns play." Mr. Morgan has appeared previously as an actor playing two parts in Designers with Dirty Faces a full length play by Mr. Kearns. Mr. Morgan is a New York native, currently living in Bayside, Queens. He has acted in film, theatre, and television and appeared in print. Mr. Morgan has had a varied career as a New York City civil servant, psychotherapist and college professor.
Mr. Kearns is the author of novels, short stories, plays, poems, and songs. Mr. Kearns grew up in Philadelphia. He currently lives in Manhattan. His novel, The World, was published in 2003. That same year, his one-act play, “World Piece,” was performed at the Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan. His full length play, Designers with Dirty Faces, had a successful run in 2003 in Woodside, Queens, having had a staged reading at Manhattan’s Rocky Sullivan’s in January 2000. It will be performed on September 30, October 1st, and October 2nd at the Fashion PlayFest in Manhattan’s Garment District. His one-act play, “The Importance of Loving Shakespeare,” was produced at the Eugene Frankel Theatre in New York in 1999 and was a semif-finalist in the 8-Minute Madness Festival at the West Side Y in June 2005. His novel in progress, Worlds, was named a finalist in the 2002 New Century Writers’ Awards.
“I Knew You’d Say That!” will have two performances: Friday, August 26 @ 8PM & Saturday, August 27 @ 5PM.
The play is part of the Theatre-Studio, Inc./TSI Playtime Series, Producing Artistic Director A.M. Raychel.
Mr. Morgan, Director and Mr. Kearns, Assistant Director have assembled a stellar cast which includes: Brian Hathaway, Amanda Minker, Linda Blackstock, Vince Mazza, Mark Dunn, and Karen Summerton. Music and scenery will be by David C. Morgan.
