August 17, 2005 (Press Release) --
A SEASON FOR JOY by author Carolyn R. Scheidies has just been released. Of the book, she said, “A SEASON FOR JOY is a 19th Century novel of betrayal, faith, joy and love.”
In A SEASON FOR JOY, Joy, hiding a secret, fears giving her heart. When she does, will her secret's revelation, destroy her heart or will her faith bring forgiveness, hope and love?
Scheidies said, “This is a story of the consequences of secrets and hiding the truth, something many of us struggle with to one degree or another.”
Though Scheidies’ other books have been with traditional publishers, A SEASON FOR JOY is different. “I entered a contest,” she said. “The guidelines stated the winner would receive a cash award, publicity and quite a few copies of the book. Those who did not win, like me, still got one free copy of their book with the work all finished, allowing for full publication with a click of a button.” The company who hosted the contest partnered with Lulu (www.Lulu.com), the world’s fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.
Scheidies added, “I thought it was a neat idea. The process helped me learn about book publishing and how a book goes from a word processor document to a finished book. I learned I like working closely with my book and having a much bigger say in the finished product than I do with a traditional publisher.”
When she didn’t get “that” call to say her book finaled in the contest, Scheidies, who meanwhile revised both the book and covers, uploaded her revisions and took the steps needed to offer it for sale, such as getting an ISBN number.
A graduate from UNK with a degree in journalism, Carolyn R. Scheidies’ published credits include over a dozen books—several of which have garnered awards. She’s written for a variety of publications, has a regular newspaper column and has worked as an editor, reader and book reviewer. Scheidies has two web sites I DEAL IN HOPE http://welcome.to/crscheidies and AUTHOR'S CHOICE REVIEWS http://come.to/bookreviews that have companion monthly newsletters. Scheidies speaks to different groups, leads workshops on writing, and guest lectures at UNK.
The AUTHOR'S CHOICE REVIEWS loop can be accessed at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/authorschoicereviews and the I DEAL IN HOPE one at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IDealInHope.
Scheidies strives to offer solid stories of inspiration and hope with satisfactory endings.
