August 18, 2005 (Press Release) --
Middle America is wearing organic cotton apparel.
National retailers like Wal-Mart, Kohls, Sears, Nordstrom, REI and major brands like Nike, Patagonia, Timberland and Adidas along with thousands of apparel stores and brands rushing to provide organic cotton clothing.
It is reported that Wal-Mart will sell over a million units of organic cotton clothing in just the next 6 months. Nike has set a target of having at least 5% of apparel products utilizing organic cotton. Retailers are quickly moving to incorporate organic cotton into their private label programs, especially in children's, infant and layette.
Sustainable agriculture and increasing numbers of consumers are driving the use of organic cotton and natural fibers. Conventional cotton agriculture utilizes pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and chemical petroleum based fertilizers. Dress your baby and children in chemical free (or nearly chemical free) clothing is a powerful message.
Every major grocery chain offers organic and chemical free foods. Parents are now looking at the apparel retailers to catch of to the food retailers and support sustainable agriculture and environmentally friendly apparel.
Organic cotton clothing is fast becoming mainstream.
